FARIDAH MBABAZI

I am a passionate climate activist and journalist dedicated to raising awareness about environmental issues affecting my community and beyond. I hold a First Class Honours degree in Mass Communication from Kampala University, where I developed my skills in storytelling and advocacy. My commitment to climate activism stems from the profound impact climate change has had on my home district of Gomba. At just 10 years old in 2009, I witnessed the devastating effects of prolonged droughts and floods. The intense heat caused pastures to catch fire, and my community struggled to find water for both people and livestock. The hunger was so severe that some family members did not survive. These experiences ignited my determination to seek solutions and drive change. In 2024, I joined Fridays for Future Uganda through its youth mentoring program, empowering young Ugandans to become activists for environmental justice and sustainable development. My active involvement includes campaigns like Stop EACOP and the "I Am Lake Victoria" initiative. Recently, I wrote an article on the Lubigi wetland, published by BEG Media, highlighting the urgent need for environmental protection and community resilience. Through my writing and storytelling, I aim to illuminate the urgent challenges of climate change and inspire collective action. Together, we can amplify the voices of those affected and drive meaningful change for a sustainable future. I invite you to join me on this vital journey let’s collaborate, share ideas, and empower each other to safeguard our planet for generations to come.
